If you would like to be placed in a higher semester based on your previous achievements, you must submit an application for placement in addition to your application for admission.
The semester in which you are placed depends on your previous academic achievements and examinations. In principle, 20 credit points (CP) must be available in the form of creditable modules in order for a semester to be recognised.
Example for classification in a higher semester
20 CP in the form of recognised modules = recognition of a semester = placement in the 2nd semester
If you want to change your major from the 1st to the 2nd semester as a student at Leuphana, you do not need to have 20 CP.
Places available in higher semesters
The number of places available in higher semesters depends on the number of places that become available.
- by 15 January: for beginning in the summer semester
- by 15. July: for start in winter semester
Placement in a higher semester: For the summer semester, students can only be placed in even semesters (2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.) and for the winter semester, students can only be placed in odd semesters (3rd, 5th, etc.).

The application for a change of major always takes place online. After completing the online application, your application for admission will be generated. You must print out your application for admission, check it carefully, sign it and submit it to the Student Services Office by the deadline.

- ca. from 01 April to 01 June: for beginning in the winter semester

Please note that a change of minor is only possible for the next semester. A new student card does not need to be issued

For the admission-restricted minors, a selection procedure may take place if more students opt for this minor than there are places available. If a change is not possible, you will receive a separate notification.

In the Teacher Education Programs for Vocational Schools, the following subjects are exempt from admission:
- English
- Protestant religion
- Physical Education
If you would like to change to a subject that is not subject to admission, you can apply informally (by e-mail) and send it to the responsible person in the Student Services.
