Parking on campus
Limited availability of parking spaces at the beginning of the winter semester
2023-10-16
Dear colleagues,
dear students,
Due to several urgent construction measures, the availability of car parking spaces on the Universitätsallee campus is unfortunately currently limited. This will become noticeable especially at the beginning of the lecture period of the winter semester starting next week. We would like to inform you about the reasons for this below:
- The parking garage P3 must be urgently renovated due to leaks. The renovation work has already begun. They will be completed in the summer of 2024. Until then, the parking spaces there and the electric charging station will unfortunately have to remain closed.
- Civil engineering work is currently being carried out at various points on the campus to renovate the electrical supply and the university's wastewater and stormwater network. They will continue for several weeks. Until then, there will be restrictions on the P2 and P4 parking lots as a result of this work.
The construction measures were originally planned to take place one after the other. Due to unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, all three measures now coincide, so that possibly we will be experiencing a challenging parking situation for all university members who depend on traveling by car, especially at the beginning of the winter semester and the lecture period that is now beginning. We deeply regret the inconvenience this will cause you. In order to minimize the inconvenience, our Facilities Management Department has taken the following measures:
- The bollards at the entrances from Scharnhorststraße at building C 12 as well as at building C 10 will remain removed until the end of the year in order to provide better access to the parking spaces on the streets in front of the individual buildings on campus.
- At the access roads to the campus, Building Management has installed new signs indicating that the use of parking spaces on campus is generally reserved for university employees and visitors to the university.
- In order to emphasize this regulation, it is possible for university members to print out a parking permit on the intranet and display it visibly in the vehicle to document that the vehicle is parked on campus. You can find this parking pass on the intranet at www.leuphana.de/intranet/gebaeudemanagement/hochbau in the Current Construction Measures section.
- Facilities Management has also made efforts to lease additional off-campus parking spaces. Unfortunately, these efforts have not yet been successful.
- On the intranet, the university also provides directions to centrally located parking lots in the city area from which the campus is easily accessible by public transportation.
Regardless of these measures, we ask and recommend that all university members refrain from using a car to get to the university whenever possible in the upcoming weeks and months, also so that those who absolutely depend on the use of a car can find a parking space as easily as possible in the coming months.
Please note that despite the current situation, the rules for parking a vehicle remain unchanged. Vehicles may only be parked where parking spaces are designated. Vehicles parked in violation of traffic regulations, especially those that obstruct roadways and locations for emergency and rescue services, must be towed away, regardless of whether or not a parking permit is displayed in the vehicle.
On behalf of all colleagues in the Facility Management, we sincerely ask for your understanding of this situation and thank you very much.
With kind regards
Christian Brei
