Tasks and responsibilities

In order to create safe and healthy working and study conditions, all university members are called upon to contribute to their own protection and to the protection of employees, students and third parties in the work area. The tasks and roles of the various actors in occupational safety and health are presented in "Organisational structure for occupational safety and health". The assignment of individual tasks is listed in the overview "Interfaces in occupational safety and health".

Legal and insurance requirements

The legal and insurance specifications that are essential for the university are listed in the legal register.

In the form of a subscription to www.umwelt-online.de, the university makes these specifications available to all university members. Dial-in is possible from the university workstation.

Accident notification and insurance cover

All employees covered by collective bargaining agreements, student assistants and regularly enrolled students are protected by the statutory accident insurance during their professional activities or training and further education at Leuphana University of Lüneburg. Persons who are enrolled as guest students or senior students, as well as civil servants, are not covered by statutory accident insurance. Participants in holiday courses or courses preparing for university admission (e.g. language courses) are also not insured.

An occupational accident within the meaning of the Reichsversicherungsordnung RVO) occurs when an insured person suffers an accident resulting in bodily injury during an insured activity.

The statutory accident insurance covers the costs of medical treatment after an examination of the accident under insurance law, provides compensation in the form of cash benefits such as injury benefit, injury pension or death benefit, if applicable, and reimburses the costs of aids destroyed in an accident (e.g. glasses, hearing aids, prostheses).

Insured activities

Insurance cover is provided for activities that are causally connected with employment or education and training at the University. This means that only those activities are insured which are performed in direct temporal and spatial connection with the activity at the university and which can be attributed to the organisational area of responsibility of Leuphana, such as

the exercise of the professional activity
participation in lectures
visiting university facilities (e.g. the university library)
registered participation in courses of the general university sports programme
business trips during the performance of official duties
participation in excursions under the direction of a university lecturer (but not leisure activities during the excursions) during the course of study activity
Also insured is the journey to and from a place where one of the above-mentioned university events takes place or the professional activity is carried out.

Telework or mobile work is also insured if this has been arranged by the university.

Studies and work in the private or domestic sphere are not insured, even if they serve as preparation for achieving the educational goal.

Accident report

The prerequisite for benefits from the statutory accident insurance is the immediate, written notification of the accident to Leuphana University. Please use the following forms for this purpose. Leuphana University forwards the accident report to the statutory accident insurance, the Landesunfallkasse Niedersachsen.
