State of Lower Saxony supports open access books
2024-05-14
Dear colleagues,
We are very pleased to announce a new funding opportunity for open access publications: The publication fund of the State of Lower Saxony (NiedersachsenOPEN) is now providing funding for open access books (https://www.nds-bibliotheksbeirat.de/sektion-w-wissenschaftliche-bibliotheken/konsortium/ndsopen/). This offer applies to (early career) researchers at institutions in Lower Saxony.
Eligible for funding are monographs, anthologies, contributions to anthologies, scientific editions as well as summa cum laude dissertations and postdoctoral theses that are published directly in open access, i.e. the e-book is made available worldwide free of charge. The requirement for funding is fulfilment of the quality standards for open access books of the AG Universitätsverlage (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7743833). The funding amount is calculated individually, based on the number of pages and the publishing services provided (e.g. editing, formatting).
Workflow: Responsibility for the application assessment and further information lies with the respective university library, for Leuphana authors with the Media and Information Centre (MIZ). Please contact us (ideally with a publisher's offer) to discuss the funding criteria and calculate the grant. Afterwards, please send us the publishing contract (not yet signed) and the funding application (https://www.nds-bibliotheksbeirat.de/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/F1_Verlagspubl.pdf). We will review the documents and decide whether to approve the application. Once the application has been granted, the MIZ will provide the pre-financing.
We would like to invite you to an information session via Zoom to explain this funding opportunity in more detail. The dates are as follows:
Title: NiedersachsenOPEN: Funding for open access books
Date: 11 June 2024
Time: 1:30-2:00 PM
Language: German
Zoom-Link: https://leuphana.zoom.us/j/92714936175?pwd=Nm90VHY3bDJvWFBoMzBLZkEzblhJdz09
The NiedersachsenOPEN Fund is funded until 28 February 2027 by the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony and the Volkswagen Foundation as part of the zukunft.niedersachsen programme. The aim is to increase the visibility of research output in Lower Saxony and to improve the information supply in the state.
For individual advice, please contact us at: openaccess@leuphana.de.
From now on, funding for open access books will be provided by the publication fund of Lower Saxony, replacing the previous funding via the publication fund of the MIZ:Library. Funding projects already in progress will continue to be covered by the local publication fund. Further funding opportunities (e.g. for open access articles) can be found on the MIZ website: www.leuphana.de/en/services/miz/research-publish/open-access.html.
We look forward to supporting you with your publication projects.
Best regards,
the Open Access Team of the Media and Information Centre (MIZ)
