Leuphana again certified with environmental seal: Paper

2022-05-23 Leuphana has once again improved its environmental performance. This was the result of this year's assessment by the environmental expert Dr. Burkhard Kühnemann on 17 May. With a new environmental programme, Leuphana would like to improve even further in the future. We will report on the results here in the coming weeks.

Paper

We use 100 per cent recycled paper, most of which is Blue Angel certified. In 2021, we used 2,312,500 A4 sheets at the university. This is equivalent to a stack 230 metres high: 14 times the height of one of the buildings on campus.

In 2021, due to the new digital processes, the amount of paper ordered has decreased by 55 per cent compared to 2019 (before Corona). This is a very nice result.

Please continue to avoid unnecessary printing, use the reduction function on the copier and print out double-sided and save valuable paper. One sheet of recycled paper requires 10 ml of water and produces 4 g of CO2.

Since 2000, Leuphana has been the first university to be certified according to the European Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). In order to retain this seal of approval, an external audit by a state-approved environmental auditor must take place regularly.
