AI in teaching and assessments - information event & experts wanted
2023-03-01
Dear Lecturers, dear Colleagues,
The power of artificial intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT has been the talk of the town for many weeks now, both in the media and within universities. In the context of university teaching, there are intense discussions about the challenges and opportunities of AI tools for teaching and learning. On the one hand, these offer a wide range of possible applications for teachers and students, but on the other hand they also raise questions and fears: How can ChatGPT or comparable tools be used in teaching in a goal-oriented and responsible way? What does their availability mean for the independent creation of examination results? How will examination formats have to change beyond the solutions that AI currently offers us? What skills and methods will be important in the future? These and other questions are already the subject of broad discussions about the future of teaching and testing at Leuphana as well.
On the one hand, the teaching service would like to offer an introduction to the topic (see below for an invitation to the first online information event). On the other hand, we would like to bundle the expertise available at Leuphana as well as empirical knowledge on AI in the context of studying and teaching, and bring together people who have already dealt with this more intensively, whether in research, in teaching or in other contexts. If this appeals to you, we would like to invite you to contact us (lehrservice@leuphana.de) and write a few words about what connects you to the topic.
Invitation: "AI in Teaching and Assessments - Online Information Event on ChatGTP"
In order to introduce you as lecturers to the topic and to support your start in the debates, we would like to invite you to a first information and testing event. This will initially focus on the basics of ChatGPT and its strengths and weaknesses. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to try out sample questions on your teaching areas using the tool and to get into a conversation together about the results:
Wednesday, March 15, 2023, 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Access details:
leuphana.zoom.us/j/99209259000
Meeting ID: 992 0925 9000 | Identifier code: ki-lehre
Registration is not required.
The event will be held in German, but trying out ChatGTP with English inputs (prompts) as well as questions and exchanges are also possible in English without any problems.
Notes on preparation:
• If you have not yet dealt with the topic, we recommend to view the following introductory video by AI expert Prof. Dr. Doris Weßels (82 minutes) at DGHD before the event: www.youtube.com/watch (in German).
For more information, there are many more links and references available on the Leuphana website on the topic: www.leuphana.de/lehre/service-und-support/kuenstliche-intelligenz-in-der-hochschullehre.html
• To actively try out ChatGPT yourself, please create your own free user* account at OpenAI/ChatGPT chat.openai.com/auth/login in advance. This account is not a necessary prerequisite for participation in the information event - you can also view the examples of your colleagues without your own account.
• Please bring one typical knowledge, transfer, or reflection task from your teaching or subject area each.
The information event on March 15, 2023 offers an initial orientation and is intended as a starting point for a series of further events.
We very much look forward to engaging in an exchange with you on this important and timely topic!
Kind regards,
Your Leuphana Teaching Service
