Prof. Dr. Jelena Bäumler is the new part-time Vice-President
2022-09-07 Lüneburg. Prof. Dr. Jelena Bäumler is a new member of the Presidential Board of Leuphana University Lüneburg as part-time Vice President for the College. This was decided by the Senate of Leuphana at its meeting on 13 July 2022 on the proposal of the President. The Foundation Council has confirmed the appointment. The term of office began on 1 September 2022 and ends on 31 August 2026. Ms Bäumler is currently still on maternity leave. This will be followed by parental leave.
The election of a new part-time vice-president had become necessary after Prof. Dr. Susanne Leeb resigned from her office to take over the management of the new Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture and Society (LIAS-CAS) and to prepare for the start of the Institute's work planned for January 2023.
Prof. Bäumler has been Professor of Public Law and International Law with a focus on sustainability at Leuphana's Faculty of Sustainability since July 2019. She has already been a full member of the Senate since April 2020. In addition, she developed the Erasmus Mundus Master's programme "International Law of Global Security, Peace and Development" together with the University of Glasgow and other partner universities and successfully obtained funding from the EU Commission. She has been the programme officer for this Master's since February 2021. She is also involved in academic self-administration as a member and chair of various appointment committees. In addition, Prof. Bäumler has been Director at the Institute for European Integration / Europa-Kolleg Hamburg since November 2020.
In the course of Prof. Bäumler's new appointment, the distribution of responsibilities within the Presidential Board was adjusted. The Vice President previously responsible for the College, Prof. Dr. Erich Hörl, will in future take over Prof. Leeb's duties and be responsible for the Research Division. Until the end of Prof. Bäumler's parental leave, her business area will be represented in the Presidential Board by Vice-President Prof. Dr. Simone Abels (for representing the College in university committees and accreditation processes) and by full-time Vice-President Christian Brei (for the other tasks of the business area).
