Landeskrankenhilfe Lüneburg plans building for university use

2022-11-03 Lüneburg. The Landeskrankenhilfe (LKH) plans to construct an office building on Universitätsallee, directly adjacent to the Leuphana campus. A building application to this effect was submitted to the Hanseatic City of Lüneburg today.

The insurance company and Leuphana have been in discussions for some time about the development of LKH-owned land directly adjacent to the campus. One of the reasons for the talks is the university's interest in creating more office workplaces close to the campus. The need for expansion is a consequence of the steadily increasing number of third-party funded research projects. The volume of third-party funding at Leuphana is growing continuously and has doubled in the past ten years alone to around 22 million euros.

There are only a few possible building sites directly on campus that could be used to create additional space for university use. Additional space could only be gained through demolition and new construction.  The 4-story office building planned by LHK with a total floor space of approximately 3,800 m² will offer Leuphana the possibility of accommodating up to 220 employees through a long-term lease.

LKH is relying on sustainable materials that retain their value for the new building. A flat roof with a green roof structure is planned, as are additional photovoltaic elements. A supply via the neighboring district heating power plant is also planned. An underground parking garage is part of the planning to provide sufficient parking spaces. It is to be accessible via the entrance road to the university.
